Our Story
Coral Bay® was founded in 2008 by husband-and-wife duo Mark and Jessica Sampson. Lifelong California residents, the Sampsons were inspired to launch their own clothing label while expecting their first child together.
“We wanted to design the kind of effortless, quality basics that could carry new moms from bump to baby and beyond,” says Jessica. “The name ‘Coral Bay’ came from our favorite beach in La Jolla, where we first dreamed up the idea for the brand over sunset strolls.”
The Sampsons started small, selling their buttery-soft tees and versatile dresses at local markets in San Diego. As word spread, Coral Bay® attracted a loyal following of customers who loved the unfussy femininity and meticulous construction of the clothes.
In just a few short years, the brand expanded into a thriving e-commerce business that now reaches customers nationwide. But despite its growth, Coral Bay® remains committed to its founders’ original vision: creating closet staples as lovely as a day at the beach.

Our in-house design team brings decades of combined experience from companies like Gap Inc., Madewell, and Free People. Based in our Los Angeles headquarters, the designers find inspiration from living in this vibrant, creative city.
“I bike by the ocean on my way to work every morning,” says head designer Amanda C. “That commute gets my creative juices flowing. I get to soak in all the colors of the city, from the cool blue ocean to the hot pink bougainvillea trellises.”
Here’s how the magic happens:
Inspiration
The design process starts by gathering inspiration. The team scouts patterns and styles by people watching throughout LA. They also browse social media, magazines, and blogs to stay on the pulse of what fashion-lovers are wearing.
Concept
Next, the designers sketch initial concepts for the upcoming season’s collections. They consider factors like wearability, ease of movement, flattering silhouettes, and staying power.
Fabric Sourcing
Once the concepts are approved, the team sources the perfect fabrics for each garment. Textiles are chosen for qualities like softness, drape, wearability, and sustainability. Most fabrics are eco-friendly and ethically produced.
Sample Creation
Then comes sample creation. Muslin mockups are sewn, tested on fit models, and tweaked until each garment meets our designers’ perfectionist standards. Only the best silhouettes move forward.
Production
Finally, each design goes into production in our Los Angeles factory. Garment workers bring the visions to life, adding special touches like custom-dyed buttons, unique lace trims, and hand-stitching. Their craftsmanship elevates each piece.
